Chinese Rug

Hand-knotted rugs from China have a tradition spanning thousands of years and were once woven for the imperial court. Their design is unmistakably defined by motifs from porcelain painting, as well as typical floral patterns, birds, and even dragons. Today, these designs have become much rarer, as the rugs tend to be styled more like Persian rugs.

Pure Silk

Pure silk is among the most luxurious natural materials. Its combination of fineness and durability is unmatched among textile fibers. Even today, silk is a symbol of true luxury. The silkworm caterpillar produces silk when spinning its cocoon. This natural silk is then carefully harvested by hand and woven into fibers. Silk has a distinctive sheen that stands out from afar. Depending on the light, it reveals beautiful variations and facets. At the same time, pure silk is exceptionally soft, wrinkle-resistant, and heat-insulating.

Hand-knotted

Traditionally hand-knotted rugs still represent the highest quality standard among all types of rugs today. Depending on the knotting technique, these rugs are extremely durable and can last for generations. The finer and tighter a rug is knotted, the more detailed the ornaments and patterns that can be displayed in the pile. At the same time, a very fine oriental rug requires significantly more manual work as well as a higher level of experience and skill from the weaver. Knot density therefore also serves as a key value factor for hand-knotted rugs. However, quality is not directly related to knot density. A more coarsely knotted rug can still be made in excellent quality.

Care & Fair

Uniq Rugs supports CARE & FAIR, an organization that brings rug retailers together to support children from rug-weaving families in India and Pakistan. Its mission is to help provide a safe childhood and improve the long-term well-being of these children and their families.
