Kilim

These Kilim rugs have a significant difference from hand-knotted rugs—they are handwoven. As a result, they do not have a high pile of wool and are often flatter and rougher than knotted wool rugs. Their construction is less intricate, making them generally much more affordable. Additionally, Kilim rugs are much lighter and can be laid out on either side. Handwoven Kilims originally come from what was once Persia and are now also widely produced in Afghanistan. They typically feature simple, straight-line patterns, which are characteristic of their weaving technique.

Pure silk

Pure silk is probably one of the most luxurious natural materials. Its combination of fineness and robustness is unbeaten among textile fibres. Even today, silk is an expression of high luxury. The caterpillar of the silk moth butterfly produces silk when building its cocoon. This natural silk is then elaborately extracted by hand and woven into fibres. Silk possesses an unmistakable shine that is noticeable from afar. Depending on the simplicity of the light, it varies into beautiful facets. At the same time, pure silk is extraordinarily soft, crease-resistant and heat-insulating.

Woven by hand

This rug was made as a flat weave by hand on a loom. Flatweave is the term used to describe rugs that have no pile. As the name promises, these rugs are woven and not knotted. This results in a flat rug with a structured surface. Flatweaves are not as soft and usually thinner than knotted rugs. At the same time they are much less complex to manufacture and can usually be laid out from both sides (front and back). Their patterns are usually geometric, which is determined by the fabric.

Care & Fair

Following our ethical principles, we at Uniq Rugs are declared supporters of the organization CARE & FAIR. The aim is a joint action of carpet traders worldwide to give children from carpet weaver families in India and Pakistan the foundation for a socially protected growing up. This improves the situation for the whole family in the long term. A childhood fit for children for a life worth living - that is the mission.
