Indian Rug

Carpet weavers from the former Persia came to India centuries ago to practice their craft there. As a result, India now has a long-standing tradition of rug weaving. The patterns and ornaments are often inspired by the well-known designs of Persian rugs. Many hand-knotted oriental rugs come from the northern part of the country. Kashmir silk rugs, for example, come from the Kashmir region, which borders Pakistan directly.

Hand-spun wool

This rug is made from hand-spun sheep’s wool of the highest quality. Wool is still spun by hand, especially in Iran (formerly Persia), Afghanistan, and Pakistan, before the actual rug-knotting process begins. For centuries, wool has proven itself as a natural and extremely durable material. Among other things, it has dirt-repellent and heat-insulating properties. At the same time, wool is incomparably soft and has a natural sheen.

Hand-tufted

This production method for carpets originates in the USA. Tufting is the sewing of textile threads into a carrier material (e.g. jute) using needles arranged next to each other. In the last step, the yarn is firmly bound on the back of the rug with a coating and the pile is trimmed to the desired length. Compared to hand-knotted rugs, this method is much faster and less complicated. In addition, the weaver has more leeway and freedom in the design of his rug.

Care & Fair

Following our ethical principles, we at Uniq Rugs are declared supporters of the organization CARE & FAIR. The aim is a joint action of carpet traders worldwide to give children from carpet weaver families in India and Pakistan the foundation for a socially protected growing up. This improves the situation for the whole family in the long term. A childhood fit for children for a life worth living - that is the mission.
