These rugs crafted in India are of very high quality and are often inspired in their designs by Persian rugs. However, there are also many with clearly recognizable patterns of Indian origin. Most Moghol rugs — also spelled Mughal or Mogul — were hand-knotted in Lahore, Agra, or Fatehpur Sikri.
All Moghol rugs share their exceptionally fine wool, which is sometimes blended with silk and knotted into top-tier pieces. Their high knot density also speaks to the craftsmanship, requiring great artistic and technical skill. Moghol rugs vary widely in their designs. There are floral patterns, depictions of landscapes in the Indian style, or Persian-inspired pattern compositions.
